While Matt Damon’s longtime friend Ben Affleck has moved into directing, Damon has remained focused on acting aside from a few screenplays he has co-written. Recently Damon co-wrote the screenplay for The Promised Land, which opened to lukewarm reviews and did not make much money at the U.S. box office.
When director Steven Soderbergh begin working on the long-in-development biopic about flamboyant entertainer Liberace, he didn’t have to look far for an actor who would play Liberace’s lover Scott Thorson. Soderbergh turned to frequent collaborator Matt Damon to star as Thorson in Behind the Candelabra, based on the titular book by Thorson, opposite Michael Douglas as the world-famous entertainer.
A biopic has been in the works on flamboyant entertainer Liberace has been in the works for some time, with Michael Douglas attached to play the lead. The biopic, titled Behind the Candelabra and based on the book by Liberace’s lover Scott Thorson, is finally set to air on HBO in the spring.
Rosemarie DeWitt has popped up everywhere recently, from the indie Your Sister’s Sister to the comedy The Watch. Now, with her role in Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land, DeWitt is showing other actors how to take on a variety of projects.
Though it’ll be difficult, if not impossible, for John Krasinski to shake off the public perception of him as Jim from The Office (plus he’ll have to get used to not mugging for a camera), Krasinski is certainly giving it a try as The Office wraps up its final season.
