Eddie Redmayne had a number of high-profile performances under his belt before 2014, including roles in Les Misérables and My Week with Marilyn. But he really lacked a breakthrough role — and he seemed to be luckless when it came to auditioning for major blockbusters. Then came his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and Redmayne has since been bestowed with critical praise and award nominations, including an Oscar nomination. Not bad for a guy who bombed some big auditions, right?

In a conversation presented by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation narrated by Jenelle Riley of Variety, Redmayne talks about his entire career as an actor up to and including his star-making performance in The Theory of Everything. You can check out the video above.
