Whoopi Goldberg admits to smoking weed before accepting her 1991 Oscar (with video)

The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg admits she smoked weed before attending the 1991 Academy Awards, and that she was stoned when she accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Ghost“. Goldberg recalls the shock that quickly turned to panic,  when Denzel Washington read her name, and the focus that was required to simply make it up the stairs and onto the stage.

“Smoking cigarettes and pot every now and then are my habits. And I thought, ‘I’ve got to relax.’ So I smoked a joint, my “home grown” to get calm before the glamorous Hollywood gathering”, she said in footage obtained by TMZ . “When he said my name and I popped up, I thought, ‘Oh f*ck’…okay, up the stairs … around to the podium … there’s millions of people, get the statue, pick up the statue.”

Goldberg appeared at ease delivering her Oscar acceptance speech, to everyone but her mother that is. “My mother called me and said, “You smoked didn’t you?” Goldberg recalls. “I know you’re not supposed to admit that you smoked pot…but just because I do it doesn’t mean you should.”

Goldberg’s confession was discovered on footage from a voice-over recording session for the 1992 film, “The Pagemaster“, which TMZ  obtained and released on Thursday.

Here’s the video. What do you think? If I watched The View right now, she looks more stoned today than she did then.
