The stars of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Peter Macon and Kevin Durand, were at Comic-Com and shared behind-the-scenes stories about their experience working on the latest installment of the franchise. Both actors spoke about their journey into the world of talking apes, describing the thrill and terror of stepping into such iconic roles. Macon revealed how he immediately jumped at the chance to be part of the project, while Durand reflected on his initial doubts about revisiting the series, only to be convinced by director Wes Ball.
In addition to discussing their character development, the actors also delved into the technical aspects of filmmaking, particularly the use of motion capture technology. Wearing mo-cap suits allowed them to fully inhabit their characters, tapping into primal emotions and exploring extreme behavior in a way that was both freeing and challenging. Drawing on personal experiences, like “road rage”, Macon and Durand illustrated how everyday frustrations transformed their raw performances.
