“Never work with children or animals” is a quote attributed to W.C. Fields, mostly because of the unpredictable nature of both. However, great young actors are known to be much easier to work with — and in the case of Logan star Dafne Keen, her character X-23 was a bit of a combination of child and animal, too!
The above clip from Entertainment Weekly demonstrates why Logan director James Mangold was willing to make a preteen the center of his R-rated superhero movie. Just check out the intensity in her face as she goes toe-to-toe with Hugh Jackman. It also includes commentary from Mangold and Keen’s co-star Patrick Stewart about why her performance was so powerful.
