Mila Kunis talks about How She Got into Acting and if Acting Is Art

Whether you realize it or not, you’ve probably been hearing from Mila Kunis more often than you realize. That’s because Kunis stars in television, film, and does voice work. Probably best known for her role as Jackie Burkhart in That ’70s Show, Kunis also voices Meg Griffin, the daughter of Peter and Lois from the hilarious animated series Family Guy.

Kunis, who is currently filming her part in the upcoming film, Oz: The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi, has an interesting take on how other actors perceive themselves. The Ukrainian born actress recently did an interview with GQ in which she said that actors think of themselves a bit too loftily: “‘This is my art. This is what I live for’…No! I love what I do, but my theory is that it’s people who doubt what they do and want to prove it to you, they’re like, ‘It’s art. I create art. It’s art, art, art.’ I’m like, Holy shit, are you fucking kidding me? I run around and pretend I’m someone else for twelve hours; I record Family Guy. Then I get to go home and watch Jersey Shore.”  Read more

Mila Kunis: “It is incredibly nerve-wracking to go to work because acting is based on opinion”

Would you be surprised to find out that Mila Kunis is waiting to be fired any day now?

The twenty-eight year old Black Swan beauty recently talked to Stylist about her career in one interesting and enlightening Q&A, where she discussed her role in Friends With Benefits opposite Justin Timberlake,  as well as where she’s headed next.

What was it about the romantic comedy that we’ve all seen so many times before that sealed the deal for Kunis?  “When I got the script it was very dated but I knew it made for a funny movie so I took a meeting with Will Gluck [the director]. Will, Justin, and myself went out to dinner and that’s when we realized we wanted the same thing for the movie. We were able to workshop it, re-write the script and tailor the characters to what we feel our generation is like now. So that’s really what attracted me most to it – to be part of a process in making a character that I was proud of.”

Kunis, who says her and J.T. didn’t exactlyhate each other,” managed to create some explosive sparks on screen in Friends with Benefits thanks to some serious one on one time together and a workshop.  “We did workshop on the script for two months before production and created these characters that were so dear and special to us because they were so much a part of us.”   Read more

Mila Kunis: “I didn’t really think of acting as a career”

Mila KunisMila Kunis was 7 when she and her parents moved to Los Angeles from Ukraine.

And Mila says, she did not grow up being told she was beautiful. She always thought college was her career goal.

“I didn’t really think of acting as a career. I’m the first person in my family to not be a college graduate. I always associate careers with college diplomas. When I was 22, my contract with That ’70s Show ended, and I had to make a conscious decision about what I wanted to do with my life.

“During the show, I had attempted to go to college, but I realized that the traffic in L.A. made it too difficult for me to go to school at 6 a.m. and be back at work at 10 a.m. I asked my parents if it was okay if I dropped out. They said okay, you can defer until after your contract with That ’70s Show ends. And then it ended,  and I realized for the first time that I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. So I had to make acting a career— to make smart choices instead of choices made for fun.”

Every year, Vanity Fair has what they call a ‘Hollywood’ issue. I’m not sure what the difference is between that and their normal issues except this has a cooler cover.

They gathered some of the best talent for the shoot, including Oscar co-hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco, Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones and the great Robert Duvall.

Black Swan posterBlack Swan: It’s the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her. from trailers.apple.com
