Josh Gad on ‘jOBS’ and His Reaction to Steve Wozniak Calling the Film “Atrocious”

josh-gad-jobsIt’s always difficult when an actor portrays a real person — Josh Gad is seeing that up close and personal with his depiction of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in the new biopic jOBS. In fact, the real Wozniak has already deemed the film ‘atrocious.’

“I adore Steve Wozniak,” Gad said in an interview with CNET News.  “I hope that when he sees the movie in its entirety, we went to great lengths to capture the essence of his journey.  There will always be debates over what we got right and what we got wrong.”

Gad, who became famous with his role in the Broadway production of Book of Mormon and his current part on the NBC sitcom 1600 Penn, did his best to research Wozniak’s life.  “I had to take programming classes,” he said, noting that he “was as computer illiterate as Steve Wozniak was computer literate.”

But don’t think Gad went to extreme lengths to get into character like his costar Ashton Kutcher did to play Steve Jobs.  Kutcher recently admitted that he became dangerously ill while attempting to follow Jobs’ fruitarian diet.  “Acting by nature is faking,” Gad admitted.  “You don’t become that person unless you’re psychotic.”

Truthfully, it doesn’t really matter what Gad thinks about various acting techniques—it looks like Wozniak still won’t be a fan of the film.

jOBS recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, but won’t hit theaters everywhere until April 19.
