He’s out doing publicity for “Revolutionary Road” so there are a ton of articles coming out. I’m looking at them all and if there is anything new or interesting, I’ll put them up.
The following article is a pretty good one.
Advice To Young Actors: “People are always asking me what advice I would give to young actors — which makes me feel incredibly old. The only thing I’d say is we all know there will be a new piece of meat. The one thing you can count on is that the spotlight of attention will fade away,” he said. “The only thing that’s gonna make you survive and have a career and not make you go do something else is concentrating on doing the best work you possibly can when you’re given the opportunity, because that opportunity will go away.”

By all accounts, the reason the movie got made at all is owing mostly to the drive and enthusiasm of Kate Winslet, who was taken with the script from the moment she read it. “I loved the emotional nakedness, the brutal honesty about what can sometimes happen in a marriage,” she said in an interview.
She began lobbying Leonardo DiCaprio, she recalled, after slipping him the script over coffee, and she also worked on Sam Mendes, the director. He was an easier sell in some ways, because he happens to be her husband. “I just told him, ‘Babe, you’ve got to do this,’ ” she said.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt almost certainly are strong contenders in this years best actor category. But they and others might be up against a subtle force they can do little about in the best actor race: Oscar voters tend to favor actors playing real people.

With “The Soloist” and “The Road” taking a hike to 2009 and late entries such as “Last Chance Harvey” and “The Reader” edging in for a spot, the top-tier contenders in the ever-changing Best Actor race seem to be settling into a knock-down battle between superstars and/or Oscar winners Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn vs. veteran actors Richard Jenkins and Frank Langella looking for perhaps their once-in-a-lifetime shot at grabbing the gold — the “F. Murray Abraham effect” as I like to call it.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a big supporter of saving the planet. George Clooney is always at the U.N., trying to prevent more mass murder and starvation in Darfur. Matt Damon recently criticized Sarah Palin, saying if she were elected vice president it would be “like a really bad Disney movie–’The Hockey Mom.’ ” Agree or disagree with their stands–would that really stop you from seeing their movies?
