Recurring ’30 Rock’ Role Still a Possibility for Alex Baldwin

Although 30 Rock’s Alec Baldwin is likely pulling a Steve Carrell and leaving his starring role once his contract is up after the show’s sixth season, the 53-year-old isn’t ruling out the possibility of coming back in a recurring role. 

“The show is about to enter syndication, and I’m sure the performance from that will determine if the show will extend beyond this year,” he recently told the Los Angeles Times. “I don’t know if I’d want to do full seasons, maybe I’d do recurring (appearances) in order to help them get to additional seasons.”

As hardcore conservation television executive Jack Donaghy, a role he’s played opposite Tina Fey‘s TV writer character since the NBC comedy debuted in 2006, Baldwin has one three Golden Globes and two Emmys. However, he’s recently expressed the desire to move on from his three-decade acting career, leading many to speculate that he’ll try his hand in politics, where he’s the polar opposite of Donaghy, who’s been known to spend “Reagan Time” with his infant daughter.  

“I am doing the show for one more year. Beyond that, I want to give myself a period of time to really just think about what I want to do,” he explained. “When I think about the future, sometimes the process is not just A, B or C. I’m allowing for a D, which is ‘who knows?’”
