Tom Felton Says Looks Got Him “Harry Potter” Role

“Let's be honest: we weren't picked for Harry Potter for our acting ability — it was because we looked like the characters as they'd been written,” the 23-year-old Felton said

Harry Potter’s Tom Felton, who’s been a part of the popular film franchise since its first installment in 2001, recently admitted that he thinks there’s only one reason him and his co-stars got cast in the first place, and it wasn’t their acting chops.

“Let’s be honest: we weren’t picked for Harry Potter for our acting ability — it was because we looked like the characters as they’d been written,” the 23-year-old Felton said, according to Digital Spy. “We started out as rank amateurs, and we’ll be lucky if we’ve learned something over the past ten years.”

Beginning with 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Felton has played antagonist Draco Malfoy in eight films. Based on J.K. Rowling’s books about a wizardry school, the Harry Potter franchise is winding down, as finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 is set to be released this week.

“It’s a question of what we do with that now. Where we go from here,” continued Felton, talking about his own career path and those of fellow Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
