Brown is best known for her performance as the iconic Eleven in the Emmy-nominated Netflix series STRANGER THINGS, for which she garnered international attention and critical praise. The first season, created by Matt and Ross Duffer, follows the disappearance of a young boy in a small town. Eleven is a young girl with many psychokinetic gifts and a mysterious past. Critics applauded Brown’s “note-perfect” (Variety) and “career-launching performance” (The New Yorker), noting how “with few words, she manages to evoke a cacophony of emotion, from terror to tender young love” (Los Angeles Times). Brown and the show were nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award two years in a row in the categories of “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series” and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series” for Season 1 and Season 2, with the ensemble taking home the award for season one. The ensemble recently received another SAG nomination this year on behalf of Season 3. Brown also received individual Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Seasons 1 and 2 in the category of “Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.” In May 2017, Brown won the first ever Best Actor in a Show MTV Movie & TV Award, and won Best Performance in a Show for her performance the following season.

In May 2019, Brown made her feature film debut in Michael Dougherty’s GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS opposite Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler and Sally Hawkins. She will return as Madison in the next film in the franchise, GODZILLA VS. KONG, which Warner Bros. and Legendary will release on May 21, 2021.

Brown recently completed production on the feature film ENOLA HOLMES, based on the popular Nancy Springer book series. Brown stars in the title role as the younger sister of famed Detective, Sherlock Holmes. When her mother mysteriously disappears on her 16th birthday, Enola seeks help from her older brothers. But soon realizing they’re less interested in solving the case than in packing her off to finishing school, Enola does the only thing a smart, resourceful and fearless young 1880s woman can do: she runs away to London to find her. Brown serves as a producer on the film as well. Directed by Harry Bradbeer, Brown stars opposite Sam Claflin, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter and Fiona Shaw in this epic tale.

It was also announced that Brown and her sister Paige Brown will partner with Netflix on the film A TIME LOST, which is currently in development. The original story idea comes from the sisters, who will also produce through PCMA Productions. Anna Klassen is attached to write the screenplay. The story follows a long-standing feud between two Long Island families that comes to a head when one of their
teenage daughters is diagnosed with cancer.

Other television and film credits include ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, INTRUDERS, MODERN FAMILY, GREY’S ANATOMY and NCIS.

In 2019, Brown launched her own vegan and cruelty-free makeup and skincare line, florence by mills. The line launched at ULTA in the US and Boots in the UK, and recently received the Launch of the Year honor at Women’s Wear Daily’s Beauty Inc Awards.

On November 20, 2018, UNICEF named Brown the organization’s newest Goodwill Ambassador. The appointment – marked on World Children’s Day at United Nations Headquarters and the Empire State Building in New York – made her UNICEF’s youngest-ever Goodwill Ambassador. Earlier that year, Brown was also named one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. She is currently the youngest TIME 100 honoree.
