Glee’s Harry Shum Jr. Taking Voice Lessons in Hopes of Singing on Show

Although Lea Michele’s Rachel and Cory Monteith’s Finn take the majority of the numbers, Fox’s musical/comedy Glee doesn’t shy away from giving its secondary characters a chance to shine in the spotlight.

However, Harry Shum Jr., who plays Mike on the hit show, still hasn’t gotten a chance to stretch his vocal cords in its two seasons.

He’s looking to change that by taking voice lessons. “I’m not the best singer, but I’m definitely not the worst. I’m somewhere in between, but I’ll let the audience gauge on how good that is and hopefully the show allows me to sing a real song,” said the actor, according to a recent Associated Press story.

A 29-year-old masquerading as a high schooler, Shum, Jr. joined Glee in its first season and has gotten more screen time as the show’s expanded its horizons. Glee’s third season begins September 21.

As should be expected, Shum, Jr. was also asked about the rumors that a large portion of the show’s cast won’t return for the show’s fourth season. “I think we’ll find out very, very soon, but I think the main focus, instead of what’s happening on season four, should be season three,” he said.
