Watch: Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke Talk ‘Boyhood’

Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, committing to star in Richard Linklater's Boyhood was an easy decision.

Committing to an acting role that would be shot over the period of twelve years is a huge decision for an actor, but with the right director its a no-brainer. For Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, committing to star in Richard Linklater‘s Boyhood was an easy decision. Hawke has appeared frequently in Linklater’s films — including Before Sunrise and its two sequels — and while shooting Boyhood Arquette also worked with Linklater on 2006’s Fast Food Nation. The two have since received several nominations for their roles and Boyhood has been recognized as one of the best films of 2014 (and it is now available on Blu-ray and DVD).

In this conversation for the Screen Actors Guild Foundation moderated by Tim Grierson of Back Stage, Hawke and Arquette talk about working with a director of the caliber of Linklater, working with the film’s growing-up star Ellar Coltrane, and how extraordinary the overall experience was working on Boyhood.
