Watch: Conversations with Sir Ian McKellen

Ian McKellen was already an acting legend and an advocate for gay rights long before he ever put on Magneto’s helmet or Gandalf’s wizard hat. While fans can check out the one of the 77 year-old’s more recent acclaimed roles as the aged Sherlock Holmes in Mr. Holmes, which was released today on DVD, those seeking a masterclass on McKellen’s years as a thespian can check out the above video.

This 90 minute (!) conversation with McKellen, moderated by Dave Karger of Fandango, covers all facets of McKellen’s long career on stage and screen, including what’s it like playing Gandalf for approximately twenty hours of screentime!
