Watch: Kelly Marie Tran’s ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Audition

The most significant character introduced in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is Rose, played by Kelly Marie Tran. Rose is a seemingly minor member of the Resistance who becomes an integral part of the plan to take down the First Order in the movie.

As one would expect, casting a character in a new Star Wars movies involves hundreds of potential actors. So what set Tran apart? The above video features clips of Tran’s audition alongside co-star John Boyega and includes clips of director Rian Johnson explaining what he was looking for in casting Rose — and why Tran was in his mind the right person for the part.
