Watch: Evangeline Lilly’s Audition for ‘Lost’

On this day 12 years ago, Lost premiered on ABC. Regardless of how you think the six-season run transpired or ended, one highlight of the show’s run was Evageline Lilly‘s performance as fugitive Kate Austen. Lilly’s confidence in her performance is a clear highlight here, and the performance by the relatively unknown actress won over producers who initially wanted to cast an older woman in the role.

Interestingly, the scene she reads in this audition is an earlier version than the one that appeared in the pilot — this scene was from before the creators decided not to kill off Jack Sheppard (Matthew Fox) in the pilot.
