Obama who? Ron Paul what? Forget the 2012 Presidential election for now — the candidates in this year’s Pawnee City Council race have been announced!

As reported by New York Magazine, Paul Rudd, the star of box office smashes like Knocked Up and Clueless, will play Leslie Knope’s (Amy Poehler) opponent in this spring’s election on the hit NC comedy Parks and Recreation, which centers around government employees in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana.

Neither NBC nor the Parks crew confirmed the casting of Rudd to the magazine, but industry insiders suggest that the actor shot his scenes for the show late last year.

After much deliberation during the first half of Parks’ fourth season, Knope, the Deputy Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, officially launched her city council campaign in the show’s winter finale.

The sitcom returns Thursday, January 12, and Rudd is expected to make his debut in one of the next three episodes.
