General Hospital remains one of only four soap operas still running on network television (The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless on CBS, and Days of Our Lives on NBC are the others). 

But while One Life to Live might be ending, its storylines will carry on. 

However, it will not be on the previously-announced online format from company Prospect Park (which has since dashed any hopes of continuing either All My Children or One Life to Live), but on another show entirely: General Hospital producer Frank Valentini announced that Daytime Emmy winner Roger Howarth, Daytime Emmy-nominated Kassie DePaiva and Michael Easton and Kristen Alderson will be reprising their One Life to Live roles on the last remaining ABC soap in a storyline that will start filming at the end of January.  DePaiva and Easton had previously signed to appear on the online series before Prospect Park announced that due financial issues it could not continue the series.

Valenti says, “We have a very exciting story planned for the citizens of Port Charles… I am confident viewers and fans alike will be excited for the arrival of John (Easton), Starr (Alderson), Blair (DePaiva) and Todd (Howarth). Incorporating characters from One Life to Live continues the legacy of the show as we weave them into General Hospital.”

This won’t be the first time that the two shows crossed over.  Characters from One Life to Live and General Hospital have occasionally crossed over on each other show since 1968.  There’s no word on how long the One Life to Live actors will continue with General Hospital, but if enough One Live to Live viewers drift over who knows what could happen.

Talking to Vulture, Boniadi, who plays Barney’s could be mystery bride, Nora, says that Harris “really brings out every actor’s A-game. He’s a consummate professional. You’d expect someone who’s that great to be very serious, but he’s so light about it that he puts me at ease. He’s really made me a better actor, and the rest of the gang has, too.”

Before landing a role in HIMYM, Nazanin Boniadi appeared in the soap opera drama General Hospital.  Portraying Leyla Mir, Boniadi says she didn’t realize at the time that she was making history. “I didn’t at the time. But then I started getting fan mail from the Middle Eastern community. That’s when I realized what a very Caucasian genre it is. Soaps are very, very Caucasian. People started telling me I was the first to play a Middle Eastern on the soaps, so we did a little digging and found it to be true. It was kind of an honor. Those little things — not that they make a huge difference — but it’s nice for the Middle Eastern community to see themselves on something that has generally been very Caucasian.”  

Prior to taking up acting in 2006, Boniadi was also a University of California Irvine, who won a prestigious undergraduate research award for her work in heart transplant rejection and cancer research, she tells the Mag.  “It’s funny, because I always wanted to act, but in my cultural background academics are heavily emphasized. So I was a good girl and went to college and did the things that I thought were right. I’ve always wanted to help people, so I thought maybe medicine was the way to do that.”

Until she finally graduated.  “[I] started the med school applications, I realized I couldn’t spend the rest of my life doing something that wouldn’t be my calling. I had to at least give acting a shot because that was my true passion. Then I had to break the news to my dad, who paid for my college. Needless to say, he wasn’t thrilled. He said, “So what do you want to do with your life?” And I said, “I want to act.” And he said, “You do realize you’re in your mid-twenties and you haven’t acted a day in your life?” And I said, “Yeah, I’m fully aware of that, but I’m going to take it seriously like I did with pre-med. I have the passion for it, so I’m hoping it will pay off.”

“It’s part of a bigger thing. I have big plans for it,” Franco told ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel. “There’s a movie that I’ve been working on with this great editor based on behind-the-scenes material that we’re probably going to take to Sundance next year.”

Franco stars in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which opened in theaters last Friday, and was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in last year’s 127 Hours. He began his arc as serial killer Robert Frank on General Hospital in 2009 and will return to the daytime show in September.

“I’ve been on like three large arcs there, so I’m very friendly with them,” said Franco about the show. “It is an outlet that I love because it’s so unique. On a soap opera they have to generate a show every day, so they’re dying for new concepts. It’s a great place to go and collaborate.”
