Clarke says that while she was beginning her career as an actress, she was routinely passed over for lead roles.
"Personally, I'm not interested in casting the most perfectly beautiful woman or someone who ticks all the boxes of what a person is 'supposed' to look like." - Casting Director Nina Gold
"To be able to flesh out a character for over eight or so years has been really amazing." - Sophie Turner on Playing Sansa Stark
"You just look like an actor wanting to change the character if you then go back and betray what your first instincts were." - Kit Harington
"I've never been good at auditions and I've never really gotten many jobs from auditions." - Aidan Gillen
Gleeson can change in and out of character is startling. First he's asked to say a line as a typical teenager, and then he's asked to repeat it as a villain.
"The most important thing when playing the character was to just get rid of a whole section of feelings that I have as a human being" - Actor Owen Teale
These audition tapes, which include actors Natalie Dormer, Gwendoline Christie, Rose Leslie, are then cut to show the actual scenes from the show.
Gold acknowledges that one of the hazards of her job is that agents constantly want to introduce her to their clients, but each production she works on already know what they are looking for.
“I kind of weirdly fell into being an action hero…I have no f— idea how that happened. You have to remind people that you want to act rather than just run around" - Kit Harington
"Everything I do with my job, I do because I am intrigued by a character" - Lena Headey
"I’d rather play characters than play someone who’s close to myself" - Jason Momoa
Considering his barbarian-like looks, it’s hard to believe that Jason Momoa had to audition to play Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones. But the Wolves star was required to audition, so he appealed to producers by showing his warlike side: he performed the Haka, a Māori war dance. It’s intense, it’s frightening, and it’s absolutely perfect for Game of Thrones… and most of the other roles that Momoa plays. Check out Momoa’s audition above!
