Chef, in which new mother Scarlett Johnasson played a supporting role, was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD this week. While she might be taking a brief break from acting after filming Avengers: Age of Ultron to enjoy motherhood, she’s never too far from the Hollywood spotlight. In fact, though most first heard of Johansson because of her breakthrough role in 2003’s Lost in Translation, people tend to forget that Johansson was acting for nearly a decade before that and appeared in films like North, Home Alone 3, and The Horse Whisperer as a child actor.

Johansson actually tried out for the role of Judy Shepherd in 1995’s Jumanji. She lost the part to a slightly older Kristen Dunst, and this very brief audition tape might reveal why — even by child acting standards, the young Johansson is a bit fidgety and distracted. Of course, Johansson would do well for herself (and even better than Dunst), so the takeaway here is that a rough audition isn’t the end of the world, right? Twenty years later you could be a member of the Avengers!
