Chris Pratt Predicted His Upcoming Role in ‘Jurassic Park’

In the amazingly prescient clip, Pratt says, "Man... I just got a text message. It's from Steven Spielberg. God! So annoying."

Chris Pratt will be starring as the lead in next year’s Jurassic World, the third sequel to the 1993 Steven Spielberg blockbuster Jurassic Park. It wasn’t until the end of 2013 that Pratt’s name came up in the press as a potential lead for the movie. However, in behind-the-scenes footage shot for Pratt’s TV series Parks and Recreation in 2010, a younger, less-trim Pratt joked about being in contact with Spielberg and starring in Jurassic Park 4. This was about a year before Spielberg announced that the Jurassic Park sequel was moving forward at San Diego Comic-Con 2011.

In the amazingly prescient clip, Pratt says, “Man… I just got a text message. It’s from Steven Spielberg. God! So annoying.” Then, reading aloud in the way one does when typing a text message, Pratt says, “Sorry, Steven. I was asked by Parks and Recreation/NBC to do behind-the-scenes, which is to say everyone else was asked and said ‘no.’ I have no shame, as you know by the endless gift baskets. I’ll have to get back to you later about Jurassic Park 4.” Pratt is either incredibly clairvoyant or he is fulfilling a years-long dream to star in a Jurassic Park movie.

When this footage was shot four years ago for the Parks and Recreation Season Two DVD set (released in November 2010), nobody would have pegged Pratt as a potential lead for Jurassic Park 4. In fact, when he was announced as the lead actor in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy most people could barely believe it and many thought the comedic actor was the wrong choice for such an action-heavy role. Obviously after a $94 million opening weekend for Guardians of the Galaxy opinions have changed, but it still is an amazing coincidence.
