Patrick Fugit stars in The Strongest Man, a story about a guy named Beef (Robert Lorie) who thinks of himself as the strongest man in the world. Fugit, in full-on German accent, plays Guru Fred, a yoga master who convinces Beef and his buddy, Conan (Paul Chamberlain),  to search for their spirit animal. The two begin their quest on the streets of Miami but as they do, their lives begin to move in separate directions with Beef meeting a girl and Conan at odds with his family.

Fugit grew up with the writer and director of the film, Kenny Riches, and as he told me earlier this week, he had a blast filming with his buddies. It was a quick shoot with a small budget, no permits and very little resources but he’d do it again in a second.

It was the polar opposite of shooting his last film, David Fincher‘s Gone Girl.  Fincher does a lot of takes but, being a details oriented guy, Fugit found that he actually liked doing 30 plus takes. With each take, he’d find that he would do something different, adding a little more nuance to his performance. But with the run and gun style of The Strongest Man, it was shoot first, ask questions later and for this film, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
