When you become an actor, most people want to be recognized in some way for their work…unless you’re a convicted felon, that is. Actor Jason Stange recently wrapped filming on low-budget horror movie, Marla Mae, in Olympia, Washington. Stange reportedly plays the part of Doctor Lourdes, described on the film’s website as a “deranged Planned Parenthood Physician.”

Producer Brandon Roberts was certainly pleased with Stange both on and off screen, saying that he “nailed” his audition and describing him as “a really great guy.”

There was just one problem.

In 2006, Stange pleaded guilty to an armed bank robbery, and was sentenced to 117 months in prison. He had been living in a halfway house until July 2014 when he left without permission, thereby violating the terms of his probation.

He had eluded the cops ever since, until he rather unwisely decided to audition for, and accept a part in, Marla Mae. Not only that, but Stange didn’t even try to remain incognito about it all. He used his real name for the film, was featured heavily in an article written about the movie in a local newspaper and was regularly photographed on set. Stange was recognized by the U.S Marshal Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, who then set about finding the film’s location. This eventually led to the police tracking Stange down and re-arresting him for his offenses at a restaurant near to where filming had been taking place.

The movie had wrapped filming before Stange’s arrest was made, and it’s reported that the film’s 2016 release will still go ahead as planned, with Stange’s character still included in the final cut. It’s just that Stange might not be able to watch his performance on the big screen for quite some time.
