Denis Leary and Elizabeth Gilles, the stars of FX’s new show, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, were at Comic-Con and Daily Actor sat down with them for a quick roundtable interview.

The show is about the lead singer of a legendary New York band, Johnny Rock (Leary). The band was on the brink of becoming famous but broke up because lead guitarist Flash (John Corbett) found Johnny in bed with his wife. 25 years later, Rock is out of work, out of money and out of show business options. That’s when a talented young singer (Gillies) shows up with a stack of cash big enough to bring the whole band back into the studio. The show also stars Elaine Hendrix, Robert Kelly and John Ales (check out their interviews here) as band members.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

Elizabeth, you did some work on Broadway. Denis, would you ever do anything theatre-wise? Like on Broadway?

Denis Leary: I would love to. Last time I did something theatre-wise was the last one-man show I did, Lock N’ Load for HBO. I only ran for like three weeks because I only had three weeks. It’s very hard with my schedule. I do a couple charity concerts a year, one in Boston for the Cam Neely Foundation and one for the Michael J. Fox Foundation in New York. And there’s nothing like 8’o clock, lights come on, curtains open and there’s just you and the audience for three hours.

Now, if you’re a name and I totally understand it, every offer I get is at least 6 months. So, for me to take to take 6 months, it’s like, my schedule has never been open for that long. Unless this show gets cancelled then you might see me. You might see me in On the Twentieth Century! “Peter Gallagher is leaving On the Twentieth Century and Denis Leary is coming in!” So, you never know!

By the way, I’d love to do a show like that. They never get offered to me. I always get the heavy. I’d love to do it.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll airs at 10pm on Thursdays on FX.
