Zach Galifianakis: “I just find actors so shitty, I just hate them”

Galifianakis isn't the type of actor to fit in any sort of category, especially since he himself hates actors. Huh?

Zach Galifianakis was a standup comedian with a cult following before appearing in The Hangover and becoming one of the most popular film comedians in Hollywood today.  But Galifianakis isn’t the type of actor to fit in any sort of category, especially since he himself hates actors.  Huh?

According to Galifianakis, his years as a standup comedian weren’t exactly empowering.  He explains, “I didn’t have a lot of options in life… Standup is a desperate art form. I just did it. That was my life and I just did it for a long time.”  But it doesn’t seem that Galifianakis is a fan of his current life as a movie star because he claims he actually doesn’t even like actors.  According to him, “I just find actors so shitty, I just hate them.  Ego is funny to me…. I just wanted to mock celebrities.”

Will the real Zach Galifianakis please stand up?   So how did Galifianakis go from an actor-hating standup comedian to a Hollywood actor himself?  It was on the set of The Hangover while having dinner with Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms that Galifianakis realized that he was actually in a good movie.  He recalls saying to his co-stars, “I’ve been in nothing but shit but this feels like it’s going to be — Bradley, stop looking in the mirror, I’m talking to you!”

After starring in blockbuster comedies like The Hangover, its sequel, and Due Date, one would guess that Galifianakis is quite comfortable in his role as superstar comedian.  Guess again — Galifianakis claims he’s far more comfortable in smaller films.  Following The Hangover Galifianakis starred in the dramedy It’s Kind of a Funny Story because he wanted more variety.  He explains, “I didn’t want to do the same thing. You can paint yourself into a corner very quickly in that Hollywood town.”  He’d like to continue with similar films, explaining, “I would like to do small movies for the rest of my life, but it’s a hard thing. Nobody’s going to fund a movie where you’re being esoteric. Or maybe they will, but I’m too lazy to figure it out.”

Who knows… perhaps Galifianakis might end disliking smaller movies soon enough!

He became what he hates. If you can’t fight them, join them is his new motto obviously.

  2. I get the feeling he and Robert Downey Jr. don’t like each other very much. There was a strange chemistry with them in Due Date that just gives me the vibe that they didn’t get along. Would anyone agree with that?
