Orlando Bloom: “People dismiss Hollywood, but you can do all these amazing things here”

“Paul wanted us to play the characters as rock stars of our generation, and mine was Bowie.

Making the rounds for his upcoming role in The Three Musketeers, where he plays the Duke of Buckingham, thirty-four year old English actor Orlando Bloom, talked about his very full life as a performer, a new father and a husband to wife, and model Miranda Kerr.

Excited about his new son, six month old Flynn, Bloom says he appreciates the liberties of choosing his movie roles “for obvious reasons. Time is more precious. I’m lucky to be in a position where I can choose what roles to play. I don’t want to leave my family unless it’s something I’m excited about.”

He also shared his love for Tinseltown and the opportunities it has afforded him.  “People dismiss Hollywood, but you can do all these amazing things here.”

One of those opportunities that Bloom appears to be grateful for is his attachment to the upcoming Three Musketeers movie from director Paul W.S. Anderson. “You have to remember this is modern retelling of a classic.”

“Paul wanted us to play the characters as rock stars of our generation, and mine was Bowie. I didn’t like the idea of wearing a wig, but I wanted to have a hairstyle that would lend itself to the period. I love Teddy Boys [the British ’50s subculture inspired by the Edwardian period], so that’s where the quiff came from. My hair was brushed up and sprayed,” he said.  “In my opinion, you have to own those costumes, otherwise they wear you – and then you run the risk of looking like a big tomato.”

The Three Musketeers will make it into theaters on October 20th, where Orlando Bloom co-stars with actors Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, and Ray Stevenson.
