No Country for Old Men and Eat Pray Love actor Javier Bardem believes that the solution to movie piracy is to lower ticket prices so that those inclined to illegally download a film might head to their local theater instead.

“People don’t have money and movie tickets are sometimes too high. I understand that,” said Bardem, while in Geneva to support a proposed international treaty that would protect actors and give them a percentage of earnings from merchandising and other film industry revenue sources. “What I don’t agree with is the mentality of the people, that to do piracy is fine.”

According to San Diego’s North County Times, also in Geneva are British producer Iain Smith, Egyptian actress Esaad Younis and Indian director Bobby Bedi, among others, making for a united international front in support of the treaty. A draft of this agreement is currently being discussed by the World Intellectual Property Organization and could be ratified next year.
