Broadway’s ‘Once’ Gets a New Cast

All great things must come to an end. Steve Kazee, Cristin Milioti, Will Connolly and Elizabeth A. Davis, from the original cast of Once, will play their final performance on Sunday, March 24th.

And with that, the show will get a new cast.

Beginning Tuesday, March 26th, Ben Hope will play the role of “Guy,” Laura Dreyfuss will play the role of “Girl,” Carlos Valdes will play the role of “Andrej” and Claire Wellin will play the role of “Réza.”

Once, the Tony and Grammy Award winning Best New Musical based on the 2007 Academy Award-winning film currently plays on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th Street).  The production opened to rave reviews on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

Once won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical.  The production was also named Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics Circle, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critic Circle and Lucille Lortel Awards.

Once is now playing in London’s West End at the Phoenix Theatre where it will open April 9 after premiering to critical acclaim in Dublin in February 2013. The show will begin a US national tour launched by The Road Company in the summer of 2013.

Here are the bio’s of the new cast:

BEN HOPE (Guy) is the leader of the honky-tonk band Ben Hope and the Uptown Outfit (uptownoutfit.com). He has appeared regionally as Hank Williams in Hank Williams: Lost Highway and Buddy Holly in Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.

LAURA DREYFUSS (Girl) appeared on Broadway and in the first national tour of the Tony Award winning production of Hair.

CARLOS VALDES (Andrej) has toured with Jersey Boys and appeared regionally in High School Musical, The Wedding Singer and Fiddler on the Roof (WVPT).

CLAIRE WELLIN (Reza)  has appeared at regional theatres such as the Lookingglass Theatre Company, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre and Profiles Theatre. She has appeared on TV on ABC’s “Detroit 1-8-7,” and NBC’s “Reconstruction”.
