Actors on Acting

Over the years, some of the world’s most successful actors have shared their insights and advice on acting and their careers.

In this category, you’ll find articles on actors who share their thoughts on a wide range of acting topics, including:

  • What it means to be an actor
  • Different approaches to acting

  • How to work with directors and other actors
  • How to deal with rejection and failure
  • And much more!

Whether you’re just starting out or a working actor, there is something for everyone in this category.

Ron Perlman on Working with Guillermo del Toro: “I know I’m in the hands of somebody who understands my wheelhouse and understands my approach to everything”

There are plenty of naysayers who seem to think Pacific Rim is some kind of Transformers ripoff, but they must not be paying attention. First of all, Pacific Rim has a lot more in common with Godzilla movies and, more importantly, it is directed by visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.

Kerry Washington on Her ‘Scandal’ Character: “I have to learn things to be her all the time”

Kerry Washington had some pretty important roles in her career, including starring as Olivia Pope in ABC’s runaway hit, Scandal. “I have to learn things to be her all the time,” the actress admitted in an interview with Vanity Fair.  She’s done preparation for the role by reading Jeffrey Toobin’s

Ruth Wilson on Her ‘Lone Ranger’ Role: “I had no expectation of getting it. I just put myself on tape and hoped for the best”

Considering Disney put a halt on pre-production of The Lone Ranger in 2011 because of its ballooning budget, it makes sense that the production would end up hiring lesser-known actors for the supporting roles. English actress Ruth Wilson plays the Ranger’s love interest — but the wife of his brother (played by Armie Hammer and James Badge Dale, respectively). She is best known for her appearances in BBC television movies and the series Luther.

Bette Midler on Broadway: “I think people don’t understand how hard this is. Those kids who work so hard in eight shows a week, I bow to them”

Bette Midler just wrapped a hugely successful run on Broadway in Sue Mengers: I’ll Eat You Last (trust us, it was one of the most successful examples of “star casting” in recent years), her first appearance on Broadway since 1980.

Armie Hammer About Fame: “I feel disgusted with myself if I even just say the term ‘my fans'”

Armie Hammer has had quite a rise in Hollywood — after small roles in film and television audiences got a double dose of him in The Social Network (he played twins). After a handful of other roles, including opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in J. Edgar, Hammer has been launched into super-stardom in Disney’s Lone Ranger alongside Johnny Depp.
