This week saw the release of the final film in The Lord of the Rings saga, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Out of the dozens of actors who appeared in the series, the one whose career was most defined by the six-film franchise is Andy Serkis, who portrayed Gollum in the series and revolutionized motion capture performance. Serkis has since provided motion capture work for King Kong, The Adventures of Tintin, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, winning dozens of awards in the process.

In this conversation presented by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation moderated by Scott Mantz of Access Hollywood, Serkis talks about his career and how the motion capture work that has defined his career has allowed him to break new ground in acting in the twenty-first century.
