Interview: Charles Parnell Talks ‘The Last Ship’ and Working Alongside Navy Seals (video)

The Last Ship is one of those shows that just sucks you in and you can’t stop watching. I wish they had the Netflix model because I want to see them all!

Starring Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin, Charles Parnell and Travis Van Winkle, the new TNT drama is the story of what happens when a global pandemic wipes out eighty percent of the planet’s population and the crew of a lone naval destroyer must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction.

Parnell, who plays Jeter, and Executive Producer Steven Kane were at Comic-Con and I sat with them at one of their roundtables to talk about the show.

Some of the highlights:

  • The writers did a lot of research on pandemics and tragedies and how humans behave during this time.
  • Parnell was asked what it’s like working on the ship. He said that acting on the ship removes 80% of the things he most worries about because “you’re on an actual Navy Destroyer. So, it’s easier” because he can just concentrate on things internally. He loves it, he went on to say.
  • Parnell was also asked how he works alongside real Navy Seals.
  • Kane then goes on to tell two very cool stories about working on the Navy base and with actual members of the Navy.

The Last Ship airs on Sundays at 9pm on TNT
