Yvonne Strahovski is used to playing some odd characters—including an ass-kicking spy on Chuck and a serial killer’s girlfriend on Dexter but it’s her new role on Broadway, in the revival of Clifford Odets’ Golden Boy, that has the actress a little nervous.

“Honestly, I do feel a little bit like a fish out of water,” she said in an interview with Yahoo! News.  “A, I’ve never done a Broadway play. B, I’ve never seen a Broadway play.  C, I’m Australian.  And I’m an Australian coming in to do a classic American play that is set in the ‘30s.  It’s been challenging on all fronts.”

As to point B, Strahovski admits, “I don’t know if I should be ashamed to say I’ve never seen one or if I should be kind of proud of it.  Probably a bit of both.”

Even though she’s never seen a Broadway production, Strahovski does have a theater background.  She went to University of Western Sydney and started her own theater company. Eventually she decided to search for work in Los Angeles, and booked her role on Chuck after only three days.

“I remember calling my parents and telling them I’m not coming home,” she said.  “And I never used my return ticket home.”

Golden Boy opens on Broadway at the Belasco Theater next week, and new episodes of Dexter air on Showtime, Sundays at 9 p.m.
