Let the Inner Inform the Outer

Joseph Campbell said, “We are so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget that the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it’s all about.”
For many of us, we’ve never been taught to identify with an inner journey; how to self explore. So we seek continuously outwardly. Partly this is due to our living in a culture that only measures results by the things we achieve, the amount of money we make, how things can be categorized into price-points and sales.
The problem with an externally-referenced (i.e., outward) journey only – is that we can continue to achieve results on an outer scale, but we eventually find that we’re unfulfilled but can’t understand why. So we keep trying to acquire more stuff or do different things or get new boyfriends or girlfriends or a better car or more designer clothes and again feel anesthetized within.
The journey we’re all on – which you might be now realizing after 44 weeks! – is a journey of discovering the inner self. The inner world offers us everything that we think the outer world provides. Read more
Jesse Eisenberg Sues Lionsgate for Using His Image to Promote a Movie He Barely Appears In

In 1997, Sylvester Stallone sued the producers of a movie titled The Good Life, which starred his brother, Frank Stallone. Sly appeared in the film in an cameo role for less than ten minutes (it was shot in a day) as a favor to Frank, but was surprised when the movie was a promotional trailer essentially promoted The Good Life as a film starring Sylvester Stallone! Lawsuits were filed back and forth, and to this day the film has never been released because of the legal wrangling.
So what’s that have to do with The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg?
Well, Eisenberg is involved in a similar experience of false promotion, too. IndieWire reports that Eisenberg is suing Lionsgate for listing his name and slapping his mug on the awful DVD cover of the low-budget horror film Camp Hell, which was shot in 2007 and released on DVD in August.
While Eisenberg does appear in the film, his appearance lasts about five minutes. Eisenberg only received $3000 for the cameo, and while the lawsuit is for $3 million the lawyers claim the main purpose of the suit is “to warn his fans and the public that, contrary to [the film's advertising], Eisenberg is not the star of and does not appear in a prominent role in Camp Hell.” Read more

The Artist is getting on a lot of people’s Top 10 list’s for best movie of the year. I haven’t seen it yet but I hear it’s great.
It’s set in 1927 Hollywood where George Valentin is a silent movie superstar. The oncoming talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion but for a young extra, the sky’s the limit – major movie stardom.
It stars Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Béjo, John Goodman, James Cromwell, Penelope Ann Miller and a dog named Uggie (who is so good apparently, people are wanting the Academy to put in a special category for Best Animal Performance in a Film).

Scarlett Johansson: “My favorite actors are actors who are enigmatic and mysterious and never make the obvious choice”

Scarlett Johansson is, on one hand, one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood and has used her fame to publicly support various political causes. On the other hand, Johansson has managed to keep her personal life very private despite her massive fame, and even though in the last year she’s gone through both a divorce and a hacking scandal she’s managed to keep her name out of the gossip columns. Frankly it’s a bit refreshing in a world full of media whores to see an actress who wants to keep to herself.
But Johansson doesn’t try to keep her business to herself simply for privacy purposes. While speaking with Interview Magazine, she reveals that there is a professional reason why she attempts to keep her life a bit of a mystery.
In addition, she says that she seeks to work with actors who similarly also try to maintain a bit of the unknown. Read more
