Make Your Life a Verticle Journey, Not a Horizontal One

Life is full of challenges.
That’s the way it is. It makes it interesting and builds character. But we don’t like them, do we?
We mislabel them as “problems” because we’re taught culturally to seek pleasure and avoid pain at all costs. We’re spoon-fed images that life is about having the perfect house with the picket fence or vacationing on a pristine beach sipping piña coladas.
So when something occurs in life that makes us feel uncomfortable or isn’t easy or doesn’t fulfill those perfect airbrushed images we’re inundated with, we label these challenges as “bad” or “unwanted.” We overlay our drama on top of what is a natural part of life. Challenges are normal. Our misinterpretation of these challenges and labeling them negatively is not.
Your life’s challenges hold the seeds for all of your life’s victories and without them your life would be a dull, lifeless, horizontal line. All victories are born out of your challenges and they are essential in order for us to fulfill our potential.
And they help hasten us on our vertical journey.

Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett are starring in The Mountaintop, which is currently in previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
The show takes place on April 3, 1968 and its a re-imagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “After delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King (Jackson) retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger (Bassett) arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.”
The shows stars talked with Broadway.com about the show, working together and how it feels to be back on the Great White Way. Read more
Who’s Being Paid What For The Latest ‘American Pie’ Sequel?

Though there are certainly many fans of the American Pie series of movies who are eagerly anticipating the film series’ upcoming sequel American Reunion, the cast of the series collectively haven’t exactly lit the box office on fire outside of the series.
So it’s mildly interesting that The Hollywood Reporter has released the rumored salaries of the main stars because, well, frankly, some of them are getting paid a lot more than others.
Take Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott, for instance who are both taking home $5 million and a cut of the gross. The two actors are obviously the stars of the films, but neither has had much success outside the series (although Scott has had a steady career in R-rated comedies like Role Models and voice acting in the Ice Age movies).
Surprisingly, Alyson Hannigan, who has since become a star on TV’s How I Met Your Mother, is receiving $3 million, as is veteran supporting actor Eugene Levy, who is the only person has appeared in all the American Pie movies — including all four direct-to-DVD spin-offs. Read more
Anna Faris: “It was really hard for me to break out of the ‘Scary Movie’ genre”

House Bunny actress Anna Faris’ latest comedy flick What’s Your Number just opened in theaters this past weekend. Playing the lead role of Ally Darling, a woman who “looks back at the past twenty men she’s had relationships with in her life, and wonders if one of them might be her one true love,” Faris talked with Reuters about her time on set, appearing alongside her real-life husband Chris Pratt of Parks and Recreation, and her standing in the comedy genre.
When talking about those steamy, but awkward bedroom scenes, Faris shared that her husband is “really supportive.”
“As actors, we don’t show up on the days when the other is supposed to be intimate with another person. I wouldn’t want my husband sitting behind the cameras while I’m in bed with Zach Quinto or Joel McHale. Chris is so great about that,” she said. Read more
Updated: 6 Clips and a Featurette from ‘Ides of March’ starring George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman

Updated: I just added 2 more clips and a featurette. I saw this movie last week and although I can’t say anything till Friday, I would listen to the buzz I talked about below.
Ides of March has been getting a ton of buzz where the lucky few who have seen it are raving.
Starring George Clooney (who also directed), Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei, the film follows the frantic last days before a heavily contested presidential primary. A campaign press secretary (Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency.
I’m on a Gosling kick right now having just seen Drive and can’t wait to see this. The clips below look great.
