Daniel Radcliffe Used Radiohead to Prepare for “Harry Potter”

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe prepared for filming of the franchise’s eight installments by listening to music from a select few groups. At the top of his list when preparing to play the films’ titular character: English alternative rock bands Radiohead and Hope of the States.

“A lot of Radiohead and a lot of Hope of the States,” said Radcliffe when asked what he queued up when preparing to play his character. “There are certain songs… that I’ve always gone back to over the years… And I keep going back to them to find Harry.”

Focusing on a group of young wizards, the Harry Potter franchise wraps up this week with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. No word yet on whether Radcliffe would blast “Magic” by The Cars or Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You” before the director yelled, “Action!”

“I cannot emphasize enough how far ahead this film is from any of the others,” the actor said about the final movie. “It’s amazing. I am so proud of this film and the way we have gone out in this film. I think people are gonna go crazy for it.”

Melissa McCarthy is announcing the Primetime Emmy Nominations and she’s a little freaked out about the whole deal.

Lucky for her, Joel McHale (who did the honors last year) is around to help her with… advice and training; including chasing a chicken, folding his laundry, torture from a puppy and other Rocky-esque tasks.

The announcements are this coming Thursday, July 14th at 5:35 pst. I’ll be happily snoozing away but I’ll post them as soon as I wake up.

Crazy Email: “I am looking forward to meeting Will Smith. If you get in touch with him before me let him know I would like to play the lead in his next production”

I get a lot of strange email’s sent to me.

Most are from someone trying to get me to introduce them to people I’ve interviewed, asking me to put them in a TV show or telling me how they deserve to be famous. Yeah, they usually write “famous.”

Unless they’re a child, I never write them back. Partly I’m afraid they might find out where I live and shoot me if I don’t “help them” and partly because it’s just not worth the time to deal with numbskulls.

But, I’ve decided that I get enough of these “Crazy Emails” as I like to call them, that I’m going to start posting them. For your enjoyment, of course.

The following email is from “Phyllis.” I’ve changed the name not because like I said above, I don’t want to get shot. She sent this to me around the time Will Smith was filming Men In Black 3 in New York.

Charlie Day on being known as a comedic actor: “It was definitely actor first and foremost. I saw myself as a guy who can act funny”

July 12, 2011 by

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day opens up about the parallels between himself and his character and the transition to the big screen.

Day, who plays illiterate glue-sniffer Charlie Kelly on the FX comedy about a group of friends who run a South Philadelphia pub, says his character is a caricature of his own insecurities. “Perhaps a lot of that comes out of my own fear and insecurities of my own intelligence,” he explains about Charlie Kelly’s illiteracy. “Being in such a well-educated family, perhaps I was always nervous about that. So it was good to make light of that in the show.” Still, he says, “I can read.”

Before It’s Always Sunny, Day wasn’t so set on comedy. “It was definitely actor first and foremost. I saw myself as a guy who can act funny. Still when I go on talk shows or whatever, I worry that I have to live up to some kind of comedic persona.”

As he moves to bigger productions like recent theatrical release Horrible Bosses, a farcical tale of three friends who plot to off their, um, horrible bosses, Day says that he’s becoming more relaxed in terms of worrying about the minor aspects of filming. “(It’s Always Sunny co-stars Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton) and myself are probably three of the most opinionated men you’ll ever meet on the set. We’re not phoning it in when it comes to that show. Whether it’s a script or a prop or whatever it is, we have opinions and we really believe in affecting the production as a whole. So it’s very difficult to then hand all that over to other people. Once I really let go, it was relaxing.”

Tom Felton Says Looks Got Him “Harry Potter” Role

July 12, 2011 by

Harry Potter’s Tom Felton, who’s been a part of the popular film franchise since its first installment in 2001, recently admitted that he thinks there’s only one reason him and his co-stars got cast in the first place, and it wasn’t their acting chops.

“Let’s be honest: we weren’t picked for Harry Potter for our acting ability — it was because we looked like the characters as they’d been written,” the 23-year-old Felton said, according to Digital Spy. “We started out as rank amateurs, and we’ll be lucky if we’ve learned something over the past ten years.”

Beginning with 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Felton has played antagonist Draco Malfoy in eight films. Based on J.K. Rowling’s books about a wizardry school, the Harry Potter franchise is winding down, as finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 is set to be released this week.

“It’s a question of what we do with that now. Where we go from here,” continued Felton, talking about his own career path and those of fellow Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

Why Were The 2011 Oscars So Bad? James Franco Says Blame the Writers

July 12, 2011 by

It doesn’t seem like anyone thought that the 2011 Oscars were entertaining, including co-host actor James Franco.

After maintaining his silence for several months after his… well, awkward hosting job with Anne Hathaway (and that’s putting it mildly), the 127 Hours star has opened up about the experience to Playboy magazine.  USA Today has some of Franco’s comments, and he’s pointing his finger at the often-bashed writers of the Oscars.

“In the last week,” says Franco, “When we really started focusing on the script for the live show and did a run-through, I said to the producer, ‘I don’t know why you hired me, because you haven’t given me anything. I just don’t think this stuff’s going to be good.’”  Specifically, Franco says he wasn’t happy about the cross-dressing bit with Franco as Marilyn Monroe. “I was so pissed about that I was deliberately going to fall onstage and hopefully my dress would fall off or something — they couldn’t blame that on me; I was in high heels.  The plan had been that I was going to sing as Cher and then Cher was going to come out onstage; that got axed when Cher and the song from Burlesque weren’t nominated. I told them, ‘Look, this is the thing people are going to talk about, the images they will take away from the show.  I just didn’t want to fight anymore, even when they said, ‘You’ll come out as Marilyn Monroe. It’ll be funny.’ Me in drag is not funny.”
