The craft of acting requires the artist to develop a fluid, problem solving approach to the varied challenges presented by each role. Matthew Arkin’s Master Class draws on a variety of techniques and methods allowing the actor to build their own toolbox. The student will develop a flexible approach allowing him to address the specific issues and problems that will change with each part he plays. Drawing heavily on the techniques and exercises described by the great Uta Hagen in her books Respect for Acting and A Challenge for the Actor, the course will also incorporate scene study with an emphasis on textual analysis. The student will explore and isolate their own life on stage, and then apply the lessons learned to find the core of each character, the desires of the heart that motivate him, the flaws and obstacles that stand in his way, and the actions that he must take to try to attain his goal.

Matthew Arkin has taught Technique and Scene Study at New York’s world renowned HB Studio.
