Steve Carell and Paul Rudd were on The Charlie Rose Show the other night promoting Dinner For Schmucks. Yes, they’ve been everywhere lately (click here) but this I love Charlie Rose interviews because they just aren’t about actors shilling their latest movie. It’s an actual conversation.
Here they talk about comedy, why they work so well together, Carell leaving the office and a lot more.

JON HAMM – “Don”
Jon Hamm’s nuanced portrayal of the high-powered, philandering advertising executive, Don Draper has firmly established him as one of Hollywood’s most talented and versatile actors, and earned him numerous accolades, including the 2008 Golden Globe® Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama. Josh Hutcherson’s Spider-Man Audition

This is what happens when you really want a part.
Apparently, Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right, Journey To The Center Of The Earth) spent his own money to create this audition video for the re-boot of Spider-Man. He got a fight choreographer and did his own stunts even. This got the attention of Sony and the director, Marc Webb… which put him the running for the part.
Cool, huh?
Thanks to Latino Review for posting this.

Mad Men’s Jon Hamm on working with child actors, acting with John Slattery and more

Mad Men just started season 4 and from the looks of it, it’s back in a big way.
Don Draper just keeps getting more interesting (and sometimes, not in a good way) and as played by Jon Hamm, deserves all the props he gets.
Here’s an interview from AMC.com
Q: What do you think are some of [Don Draper's] traits that should be learned and adopted? – Piper
A: Don makes a pretty good case for ambition and for kind of being adaptive, and I think that those things can be good things when done with good intentions… I think he really loves his kids — I think that’s important… What makes him so fascinating to a lot of people is the fact that we really want to like him and yet he’s disappointing in so many ways…
Q: Jon, do people ever assume that you are like Don in real life? (ie a hard drinker and smoker AND philanderer). As a result, do women hit on you as a result of Don’s image? – Spinny Boo Arbierre
A: Women don’t really hit on me… I don’t really put myself out there in that aspect. There’s a pretty significant line of demarcation between Don Draper and my existence in real life.
Q: How would you react if you hear of someone who has a secret so deep as that of Don? – Lucas Olarte
A: I think I would react differently if I was in a relationship with that person than maybe I would if I had only business contact with them or something a little less personal or intimate. I think we saw last season how Betty responded upon finding out this information, which was probably deeper and scarier and weirder than even in her worst nightmare she thought it was going to be. I think it really depends upon how much you invested in believing in this person.
Q: I want to know how you and January Jones approach working with the child actors who play your kids. – Kelli Peduzzi
A: Any time you’re working with children it’s significantly different from working with adults. You want to respect the fact that they’re little kids and you don’t want to curse around them and you don’t want to be inappropriate around them. But acting with them you just try to be as real as you can. And take what they give you. Kids can be remarkably raw and real and in the moment and scary good… It’s tricky. The most important thing is to have a respect for the work and if they see you doing it then that’s what they want to do, as well.
Tron: Legacy Comic-Con Press Conference and Panel

Tron: Legacy was one of the big films that was showcased at this years Comic-Con and it went over like gang-busters.
I got a chance to go to the press conference before the actual panel and my am really looking forward to the movie.
I’ve edited some clips together where Jeff Bridges talks about revisiting the character of Flynn after 27 years, what’s it like to wear the suits and more. And after watching this, I gotta say, I love Michael Sheen even more – the guy is extremely funny!
Steve Carell and Paul Rudd attempt to plug ‘Dinner For Schmucks’

Steve Carell and Paul Rudd are out plugging their new film, Dinner for Schmucks. I love Paul Rudd and think the movie looks pretty funny.
The video is 10 minutes long but I thought it was hilarious. Rudd pretty much takes over the interview showing off his French accent, his face dancing skills and has a on-going joke with his water glass (you’ll just have to watch).
Dexter: Comic-Con panel

The Dexter panel at Comic-Con is always a fun one to attend. Michael C. Hall is always funny and the way he answers the sometimes ridiculous questions are classic. It was also great to see him looking so good after his cancer battle.
This season, it looks like Dexter will have to deal with the suspicions of his co-workers (Quinn! Watch the trailer below) Also, look for guest stars Julia Stiles, Johnny Lee Miller, Shawn Hatosy and Peter Weller.

Here are some nuggets from the panel plus a portion of Showtime’s panel (which I wasn’t able to attend) and the trailer for Season 5!
Michael C. Hall:
* Who was your favorite Guest Star? ” That’s hard. I’ve enjoyed all the people I’ve killed.”
* “Being a serial killer is like acting. If you feel like you have to do it, then do it.” (He got a huge laugh on that).
* On the death of Rita: “He’s motivated by a desire to make amends for that even if he doesn’t consciously know it. He needs to make things right, even if it feels impossible.”
* “An appetite remains for killing and I think there’s an inexpressible unquenchable vengeance alive in Dexter now because of the fact that he killed Trinity and allowed himself to express a sense of kinship and a sense of mercy, only to discover that the guy had murdered his wife. He can’t bring Trinity back to life and kill him again, so he has to find other victims.”

Actors not getting residuals from ‘America’s Most Wanted’
July 22, 2010 by Lance Carter

I’ve been in several episodes of America’s Most Wanted when I was back in DC and it never even occurred to me of getting residuals from them.I’m not sure why I never thought if it but it would be nice to get paid for all those re-broadcasts.
(from Reuters – Eriq Gardner) Has any “America’s Most Wanted” viewer ever stopped to ask whether the actors portraying serial rapists and bank robbers studied Method? Probably not.
Allegedly, the producers of the long-running Fox show gave these actors short-thrift as well.
Kenneth Reichling and Robert Wu are suing Fox and STF Prods. for failing to pay residuals. In a complaint filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the actors claim they made various appearances on the show but are now owed money for re-airings, foreign, Internet and print use of their spots, as well as re-cutting of spots aired as different segments.
Fox declined to comment.
Reichling says the situation became apparent to him after being made aware of an episode of “AMW” that re-aired in June 2009. Upon investigation, he claims he discovered there were “innumerable instances” in which the show had re-aired spots in which Reichling appeared.
The complaint, for breach of written agreement, intentional and negligent misrepresentation and breach of good faith and fair dealing, seeks at least $50,000.
