SAG is considering AMPTP's final offer

February 21, 2009 by Lance Carter

Gee, you knew this was coming, didn’t you? We throw out the hard liners for a bunch of milquetoast negotiators.. and the AMPTP gives us squat. Is anyone surprised?

From Variety:

sag-logoWith Hollywood looking on, SAG’s national board is considering the congloms’ take-it-or-leave-it offer.

The panel began meeting Saturday morning at SAG headquarters in Hollywood, two days after talks between the guild and the companies broke down.

amptp_logoSAG has yet to officially comment about the “last, best, final offer” from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The companies are insisting on a three-year deal, while SAG wants a deal that will expire on June 30, 2011.

Demonstrators picketed outside the meeting in support of rejecting the offer. About two dozen members from the Membership First faction and the Wild Bunch stunt group were in attendance as of late morning.

“We won’t work for free,” read one sign.

The companies have told SAG that the offer could be withdrawn in 60 days and have asked SAG members to study the proposal, which includes “enhancements” from the AMPTP “final” offer from June 30 — when the current primetime-feature contract expired.
